Rihand Dam

which was the first dam, constructed in independent India and famously called by Nehru as the temples of modern India. Built on the Rihand River, an important tributary of the Son River, this dam was built in 1962 and reservoir impounded behind the dam is called Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar. This dam is particularly beautiful in the monsoons when the river is in full flow. One can stare and wonder at the engineering marvel of the dam and also picnic in the beautiful locations around the dam. The region is covered with dense forests and there are numerous picnic spots nearby like the Chandra Prabha sanctuary, Lehra, Pokhra etc .
